Reproductive Rights Forum, February 2013

Meredith Raimondo, professor of comparative American studies at Oberlin College, discussed issues of reproductive rights and HIV/AIDS globally. Raimondo’s focus has been on LGBT and sexuality studies. She is the recipient of a grant to teach HIV/AIDS in America for her First-Year Seminar, which addresses the questions of the state of the AIDS epidemic in the United States.

Tina Reynolds, co-founder and chair of Women on the Rise Telling HerStory (WORTH), presented “Reproductive Justice and Resistance of Women.” Reynolds is currently an adjunct professor at York, CUNY in the Behavioral Sciences Department, and an editor of the anthology Interrupted Life: Experiences of Incarcerated Women in the United States.

Abigail Adams, visiting assistant professor of sociology and anthropology at The College of Wooster, presented “Life Choices: Abortion Narratives in New Mexico.” Adams’s research interests include political conflict and human rights, identity politics, postcolonial theory, urbanization and transnationalism, feminist anthropology, human sexuality, reproductive health and technologies, personhood in cross-cultural perspective, and ethics in scientific advancements.

Ngozi Cole, a sophomore at The College of Wooster, discussed reproductive rights in her native Sierra Leone.

Poverty Dinners, Fall of 2011 and 2010

An activity aimed at raising awareness about poverty worldwide.  Students are assigned one of three socio-economic groups that represent proportional global standards of living.  Fifteen percent of students are served a full-course meal with all utensils and glasses included, 25% of students are served a simple, meager meal with, and the remaining 60% are served rice and beans to share, with no utensils included.
